Why get a health assessment?
A health assessment may indicate areas of your lifestyle that require improvement in order to prevent ill-health and disease. This is likely to give you the motivation to improve your lifestyle and exercise more. A health assessment is the first step towards promoting a healthier, more active lifestyle.
The Scottish Health Survey shows that most people in Scotland are not active enough:
- 72% of women and 69% of men are not active enough for health
- This scale of inactivity makes it the most common risk factor for coronary heart disease in Scotland (more than smoking and obesity)
- Even among children, 27% of boys and 40% of girls are not active enough for health
What are the risks of inactivity?
Inactive people have:
- Twice the risk of coronary heart disease
- Higher blood pressure
- A higher risk of colon cancer (3.6 times greater)
