Training Band Verification Test

In order to ensure that the incremental blood lactate assessment relates directly to the sport a verification assessment is often used in the training environment. This type of verification is normally to ensure that the threshold for blood lactate production has been accurately determined from the incremental blood lactate assessment.

The workloads chosen for the incremental assessment are estimated from training and competition performances and thus, in a small number of cases, may not accurately highlight the blood lactate threshold.

In some sports e.g. rowing it is not possible to complete a blood lactate assessment on the water due to environmental conditions continually changing. Thus, an ergometer is used. A training band verification test may therefore be completed to ensure heart rate and blood lactate training bands are similar to that during on-water rowing.
